Union Park is an Orlando suburb, a census-designated place, found east of the city. Its eastern border follows Rouse Road, terminates south on Florida Route 408, heads north along Dean Road, and follows the Econlockhatchee River in an arc from northwest to north before closing the rectangle at Rouse Road again. It's only a 13-minute drive to Orlando. The community had an estimated population of 9,769 in 2010.
Downtown follows the east-west traffic of Colonial Drive, where there are a pair of plazas housing much of the town's business. For a fun evening, locals and visitors can gather at the Boardwalk Bowl, a place for bowling, virtual reality and arcade games, and billiards tables. The bar serves pizza, burgers, salads, and flatbreads. Union Park's downtown includes a few chain fast food restaurants, several grocery stores, a gas station, a car rental place, and an auto parts store, among other interests.
Though it’s just outside of town, visitors may wish to check out the University of Central Florida Arboretum, northeast of the town. There are plenty of hiking opportunities through beautiful natural landscapes.
There are a pair of parks in town named for a park, including Downey Park and Neighborhood Park. Downey is the largest at 47 acres, and features a baseball complex, sand volleyball, a splash playground, a fitness area, and the lovely circular Lake Downey. Dogs will love the off-leash area. The neighborhood park on the edge of town has a play area and a single wide-open field with a track surrounding it. Hikers may pass through the area and into the neighboring community to the west by traveling along the Little Econ Greenway. The views take in the river and makes for a great day trip excursion with little up and down hiking.
